Studio Time

After being immersed in designing a leaflet and other publicity materials for my exhibition it was lovely to have time in the studio working with my hands and not wrestling with words or looking at a computer screen.

The beech trees still hold my attention -I have been fascinated by the wounds on these ancient beech trees – some of them seem to actually bleed, others are massive openings and yet the tree still unfurls its leaves each spring.  This work-in-progress is the first in series of work based on their wounds.

Exhibition Title

I meet with Anne this week to decide on what we would call our exhibition.   Not an easy task, ideas have been running through my mind for a couple of weeks and none seemed to capture the nature of both our work.   An early idea was dismissed because it was to obvious, though I liked that it was straight forward – The Beech and the Oak.  Another idea – Time & Place – we thought was too big even though it caught the key theme underlying my work (time) and Anne’s (place).    A Quiet Obsession emerged from the scatter of ideas.  It speaks of the quiet of the trees and our obsession with particular trees.  It feels good to have a title.
